I'm a freelance journalist based in Starkville, Mississippi.

In the last year I've written about how climate change is impacting older Americans, the Attalid Empire of Pergamon, and the Dutch farmers bracing for a saltier future. I'm particularly interested in issues related to aging, health, and climate adaptation.

As a reporter and editor for the Vermont investigative, nonprofit news outlet VTDigger.org from 2015-2020, I produced more than 1,200 breaking news and enterprise stories on criminal justice, state and national politics, and anything in between. I was Washington, D.C. correspondent from 2017-2018, and, as Sunday editor, I contributed to VTDigger's award-winning coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic. I investigated the DMV's collaboration with ICE on immigration enforcement, lack of mental health treatment in the prison system, the state's overhaul of student assessment in public schools (for Hechinger Report), and more.

I contributed to the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker's documentation of assaults and arrests of journalists during the racial justice protests that began in response to the murder of George Floyd. In addition to reporting from Turkey, across the U.S., and the Netherlands, I've written and fact-checked for political encyclopedias and appeared as a panelist and occasional guest host on radio and TV news shows, including PRI's The World and Vermont Public Television's Vermont This Week

I've had a journalism habit ever since the editor of the weekly newspaper in my tiny hometown hired me to profile other high school students in 2005. I'm curious about almost everything.
